ADD/ADHD, ASD and other disorders

People with ADD, ADHD, ASD and other disorders have to cope with being different, as do their family and other people whose lives they touch. Once you face the situation and deal with it as a challenge, adaptation comes naturally. Acceptance makes it easier, even intuitive, to find solutions and alternatives for living a full, rich life. This is what drives us to design tools and resources that help develop their full potential of all.

Attention deficit disorder, with or without hyperactivity, is quite common in modern society. It mainly affects children and adolescents, to varying degrees, but is also diagnosed in some adults. It impacts all spheres of a person’s life: family, education, social and personal life.

A neurological disorder, ADD/ADHD makes it difficult to control ideas (inattention), movements (hyperactivity) and behaviour (impulsiveness). It is natural for children to be inattentive, overly excited or have a temper tantrum on occasion. But not all the time and not in every area of their lives. While episodes cannot be prevented, they can be controlled by relying on helpful resources, consulting professionals and using adapted materials.

ASD

Autism spectrum disorders (ASD) include autism, Asperger’s syndrome and pervasive developmental disorder (PDD). Like ADD and ADHD, these are neurological in origin. But unlike ADD/ADHD, which strikes both genders equally, studies show that more boys are diagnosed with ASD than girls[1].

ASD affects several aspects of a child’s development, including the ability to form relationships and communicate with others. Since it is a neurological disorder, there is no cure. However, a growing number of resources are available to helps families cope with an ASD diagnosis. Access to specialized materials, like our manimo, are a great help for child development. The exercises learned in stimulation workshops can be applied at school or home to maintain and reinforce the skills acquired.

Other disorders

Many people who do not suffer from a neurological condition have other issues, such as oppositional defiant disorder, anxiety or learning disabilities. An individual hampered by these problems is as much at risk of developing social integration issues and low self-esteem as a person with ADD/ADHD or ASD. Getting professional guidance is a must. Thankfully, there are several tools available to help everyone best cope.
